Good news if you live in Canada and have no money and a coffee addiction:
On May 21, between 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm, participating Tim Hortons locations (in Canada only) are giving away a free small iced coffee to each customer. No purchase necessary.
Go forth and caffeinate, ay?

Kraft Macaroni & Cheese

Here’s how I do this thang:

Follow all the preparation directions on the package UNTIL the part where you add the powdered artificial cheese-like food substitute substance. Add only half of the packet, and save the rest in a dedicated container (I use the cutest little teeniest, tiniest reusable plastic Tupperware container, given to me by a coworker. You know, when I had a job.)

While everything’s still hot, sprinkle some shredded cheddar cheese on that bad boy (maybe 3 or 4 ounces, but I’ll leave it up to you) and stir until it melts. Sometimes I add a small squirt of mustard for some zing.

It may not be cheaper than preparing it the old fashioned way, but it tastes a whole heck of a lot better without really adding any real effort. Plus, that powdered artificial cheese-like food substitute substance is nice to have around. Not just because you can use it again with your favorite pasta the same way, but it comes in pretty handy on popcorn and some other things.

This one’s courtesy of my mom (Hi Mom!).

You know how you can sign up on an e-mail list for the stores you frequent, and sometimes they e-mail you coupons you can actually use? Well, this site not only lets you search for businesses that do that (online or in your geographic region), but it’s specifically geared toward businesses that give you something special on your birthday.

My birthday was last month, and I was able to finagle a free ice cream “creation” from Cold Stone Creamery, $1.00 off of a drink at Caribou Coffee, a free dinner from BD’s Mongolian Barbeque, free chips & salsa from Qdoba Mexican Grill, a buy-one-get-one-free lunch from Noodles & Co., and probably some other stuff I’m forgetting because my cup had simply runneth over with free goodies.

Worth a few extra e-mails in my inbox, for sure.

KFC Coupon - Reminder

So you all heard about that big fiasco with Oprah and the Kentucky Grilled Chicken coupon, right?

Well, for those of you who were able to print off your coupons during the short time period they were offered, TODAY IS THE LAST DAY you can bring them in to your local KFC for a raincheck! I brought mine in last week, and all you have to do is fill out a little form with basic contact info, and hand it to the manager with your original coupon.

I’ll let you know when I receive my raincheck!

Who's Unemployed?

I am! And if you’re like 8.6% of today’s U.S. labor force (13.4% if you live here in Michigan), so are you. How’s that going for you? Yeah, me too. But I’m becoming resourceful. And I thought I’d start a blog about it.

I’ve gotten pretty good at reducing my spending to meet my new (and hopefully temporary) income, but I think my real talent can be illustrated in my ability to eat on the cheap!

Some of what appears here may be specific to my geographic location (Metropolitan Detroit), but I’ve got tips for all y’all. Whoo boy.
